SAF Urges Funeral Directors to Omit "In Lieu of Flowers"

Funeral Rule Gets the Nod

Florists active in the sympathy business market will be reassured to know the federal "Funeral Rule" is still in place. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently decided to maintain the regulation that funeral homes cannot force clients to purchase goods and services, such as flowers, as part of the funeral home services.

Larimer, Maddux, Nissen Join AFE Board

The American Floral Endowment (AFE)  has elected three new members to its board of trustees. (Read more about the new AFE trustees.)

Former SAF Leader, Laura Kantakis, Dies

Laura Kantakis, co-owner of Associated Wholesale Florist in Rochelle Park, N.J., died March 25, 2008. Active in both SAF and Wholesale Florist and Florist Suppliers Association (WF&FSA), she was known for doing what it takes to get the job done, including getting flowers into New York City after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Small Business Getting Ready for "Brain Drain"

As 19 million baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) edge closer to the age of retirement in the next three years, surveys show small businesses may have a slight edge over larger companies when handling the transition.

Flexibility More Important Than Cash
